About

The Young Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom Australia

This video sums up our mission statement:

Formed in Australia in 2011, Young WILPF (YWILPF) is a global movement of young people involved in and supporting the objectives of the 100 year old feminist peace movement known as the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF). Celebrating and embracing the varied experiences of younger people, YWILPF works closely with WILPF Australia and with other sections and like-minded organisations globally to help achieve our priorities of:

  • Political solutions to international conflicts
  • Disarmament
  • The promotion of women to full and equal participation in all societies activities
  • Respect for fundamental human rights and the right to development in a sustainable environment
  • Economic justice within and among states
  • Elimination of racism and all forms of discrimination

Our YWILPF members (currently based in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide) have worked with the WILPF offices in Geneva and New York; have attended the YWILPF Conference in Stockholm, Sweden; and have attended national and international fora on the rights of women, such as the Commission on the Status of Women in New York. These opportunities are open to all members now and into the future, so please join us!

The Y is a peace branch

Young WILPF (YWILPF) provides a space for young people under the age of 35 to network, organize and advance the goals of WILPF.  YWILPF exists to build capacity and help facilitate youth informed and youth-led activism for change. Importantly, YWILPF brings in a new generation of young people to promote peace and social justice into the future.
